Re: I have a question
We do have a solution in the works for ANY topic which gets out of hand and starts upsetting the balance this board is designed to promote. Give me day at least because even though being a admin gives one the ability my feeling is it isn't right to just up and do something without having input from the others first.

Re: I have a question
quote: Lesigner Girl wrote:
I have no problems discussing religion, but constant evangelizing and going around judging people for not believing like him is not discussion, it's harassment.
My thoughts exactly.
And Rick thank you I think a little regulation from management would not go amiss. I hate getting angry the way I do when people 'evangelize' to me. I am really a very easy-going person, but this particular poster gets my back up, so I retaliate with what sounds like intolerance, for which I apologise. You know I don't want to tread on any toes, even though I do have very strong opinions.

Re: I have a question
James gave a thumbs up to my idea so I have implemented it and made my own "pick 5" to get things back in balance. James picked the first one as his own topic "Did Jesus Live" which leaves him with 4 to go and I am sure Lesa will pick her 5 when she gets in tonight. The solution does not just apply to the current overload of religion based topics but to all forums and all topics so no discrimination is involved... that just happens to be the first category being addressed...

Re: I have a question
Thanks Rick, good idea.
I've let Mel know my feelings too - I'd love to discuss religion, but not with him I'm afraid because he's like a dog with a bone!!
I realise that he feels called to talk about his faith but there's a big difference between doing that and laying down the law as he sees it. I'm sure he's a good person, maybe we can get to know him better by discussing other subjects as well.

Re: I have a question
I like Mel and count him as a friend but I also see where you are coming from. The desire to share what we know is true (from the Christian worldview) is very strong and I will not fault Mel for trying. James was the same way at one point and I know I was as well. The desire for us is just as strong, if not stronger, than what you see from Mel today. The difference for me was a understanding of what Jesus meant went he said:
quote: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
For me this means a personal relationship with explanations given as asked, my life is the testimony and my words are a testimony. When God moves both I and the one moved know about it but until then I strife to live peaceably with all men.
Mel will get there too, just have some patience while he finds his own voice

Re: I have a question
I thin he's found it loud and clear Rick! I hear what you say .... unfortunately though he's having the opposite effect, and instead of encouraging people with his beliefs he's actually turning us all in the opposite direction. Since reading what he has to say all the time, I have become more interested in the scientific view ... before this, I hadn't known much about the Big Bang and evolution etc and had just accepted what I was taught. Now I'm becoming more questioning and am teetering on the agnostic tightrope right now. I was raised in a traditional faith and simply accepted everything as gospel (pardon the pun) but now in my old age, I'm also more self confident and eager to learn more about that side of things - the Biblical stuff I know with my eyes closed.

Re: I have a question
The biggest challenge for this type of board is the creation of identity.
There will be some who view it as a atheistic board so if they are of a faith they will come in with postings similar to Mel's which are direct challenges or arguments from what they feel is the "scientific side" of things.
There will also be some who view will view it as a "Christian front" style board and they will pop in with the classic "contradictions in the Bible" or "you Christians are stupid" style postings.
Frankly, I am surprised that we have not seen the 2nd yet but I know it is coming...
The real identity The Neutral Zone is neither of these extremes. Lesa is a self professed atheist and I am a self professed Christian. The board was created as a place where we could talk to each other on a equal footing on matters of faith and science without either of us feeling that we had to be super careful on what we said or how we said it. James owns the board and his main reason for being involved is our trust in him to tell us if we are mis-understanding each other.
