It would be a major mistake to ignore either of you Erika! Besides, have you ever known of a straight man ignoring pretty women?

Checkers is good... it is a fast game so you can play it more than once in a day emoticon

I've always liked (=had talent for) reversi aka othello.

What about card games? My fav would be spades (sort of simpler version of bridge), though preferably in net version so that computer keeps score (and it's hard for me to find three other players).

But mostly I just keep to single player PC games.

I have played Othello before emoticon It was fun but I am not very good at it. Spades is loads of fun but in the Baptist community cards=gambling for most so I stopped playing about 15 years ago.

Why do they feel that way about a card game, Rick? Just curious here - it doesn't always have to equate to gambling, cards can just be fun - and also a learning tool, training quick thinking with numbers etc.
Gambling can be fun too as long as people don't get so addicted that they bet their last dollar on a game of chance, and keep their heads. There might be thousands of people who are so addicted that they're prepared to lose everything but then most addictions are the same way - it's going beyond moderation that causes the problems. Never gamble with more than you can afford to lose ... but that's another subject for discussion!

I had a wonderful half-hour playing on the machines at our casino between a movie and lunch the other day. Spent R40 and came out with R116. Not too bad at least it paid for lunch.
But I can't see what's wrong with playing solitaire on your computer. I have a whole bunch of those games and the mahyong ones that I play when I'm bored. I still have to win at Spider, can't do that.

The history of card games puts the basic deck (the one with the Jack, Queen, King etc.) in the company of brothels, drinking and gambling which are things we should avoid. For a huge number of Baptists even the possible perceived appearance of doing wrong or being in the wrong crowd is the same as actually being there and doing the same things.

Since I am a Pastor in the Baptist community I find it much easier to avoid the card and dice games than to be in constant argument over it.
