Re: How things change.
What you said about the perverts in a village. Unfortunately it is only too true because children are hurt every day in our country because of perverted adults. But again, it is an African thing. Men are revered in Africa and especially older men with huge bellies. So no one would dream of reporting a really disgusting old man even when children get hurt. Until fairly recently we never heard about these things but now that western law and the Constitution which guarantees the rights of children are protected, the younger members of society are more aware of the ugliness of the things they used to protect and are speaking out. But again this leads to ugliness because it's not unheard of for a community to mete out punishment as they see fit.
Of course because we grew up protected by the Apartheid system, we weren't aware of the things that happened in the Africa community. The Nats simply didn't bother to pay attention to Africans hurting other Africans. Now it's different and hopefully we'll see a decline in children being damaged and women being raped because of customs that forbid them to complain.

Re: How things change.
The same things happens when a cat pees in your car. Our old girl did it once when she went to the vet, couldn't help it because she was frightened and very ill. It took months to get rid of the smell.
