Noah's Ark
Thought that some of the folk here might find this interesting ...
? Working Replica of Noah's Ark
Opens In SCHAGEN, Netherlands ??
?
The massive central door in the side of Noah's Ark was thrown open Saturday
for the first crowd of curious Pilgrims and townsfolk to behold the wonder.
Of course, it's only a replica of the biblical Ark , built by Dutch
Creationist Johan Huibers as a testament to his faith in the
literal truth of the Bible.
?
The ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. That's two-thirds the length of a football field and as high as a three-story house.
? Life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals greet visitors as they arrive in the main hold. A contractor by trade, Huibers built the ark of cedar and pine - Biblical Scholars debate exactly what the wood used by Noah would have been.
Huibers did the work mostly with his own hands, using modern tools and with occasional help from his son Roy. Construction began in May 2005.
On the uncovered top deck - not quite ready in time for the opening - will come a petting zoo, with baby lambs and chickens, and goats, and one camel.
Visitors on the first day were stunned. 'It's past comprehension, ' said Mary Louise Starosciak, who happened to be bicycling by with her husband while on vacation when they saw The ark looming over the local landscape.
'I knew the story of Noah, but I had no idea the boat would have been so big.' There is enough space near the keel for a 50-seat film theater where kids can watch a video that tells the story of Noah and his ark.
?
Huibers said he hopes the project will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands , where church going has fallen dramatically in the past 50 years.
''If You Need Help, Ask God. If You Don't, Thank God''...
'Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.' Psalm 23:6
Now that I am old and
gray...give me the time to tell
this new generation
(and their children too)
about all your mighty miracles.
Psalm 71:18
?
?
Will post some photos that were with the email I received - can't put them in the places they're supposed to be, so please be patient!

Re: Noah's Ark
Here's the website with pictures
It apparently took 18 months to build, is a scale model and is touring Europe. It opened to the public last September.
I have to smile, how do you get around explaining how millions of varieties of each species couldn't possibly have fitted on that small boat - and yes the actual thing was pretty small - easy, they took baby animals and not all varieties of all the species, so if there are 3 million-odd varieties of moths, you only had to take two moths and within 5,000 years millions of different varieties would reappear without evolution. And if the baby animals happened to have some sort of recessive gene, or be unable to breed, then too bad that species died out.
I'm not going to argue about this one.

Re: Noah's Ark
Thanks Mo - now why didn't I think of that, instead of fooling around with Photobucket?

How on earth did it take 18 months to build that? With just basic tools and on his own Noah surely must have knocked his up in next to no time, maybe even when he saw the first sign of rain clouds on the horizon. If they ever find the wreckage of the original Ark they may also recover Noah's plans and they can be used for modern day shipbuilding.

Re: Noah's Ark
Cal, absolutely! But like Mo, I'm not going to get involved here at all - I simply posted it because I thought some folk here would like to read about it.

Re: Noah's Ark
A friend of mine did an entire analysis of the feasibility of the Noah story and came to the conclusion that it was an improbable story. You have to remember that there were only 4 people building it as well. And also that they had to chop down the trees, no ready, sawn planks for them to use and then tey had to figure out how to put them together to make it waterproof.
How long would it take to do that? And where did they find the forest? Yes I know there are trees in the area but it would be interesting to hear the theory of how they chopped down the trees.
And the logistics of feeding the animals, where did they find eucalyptus trees for the koalas, and bamboo for the pandas? And what did they do with all the poop? The gases from that alone would have been murderous.
Anyway as I said I don't want to get into an argument about this. These are just observations I'm sure there are plenty of answers and theories about them.

I don't see any dinosaurs on that boat.
