Re: Spousal abuse

Back to the spousal abuse topic now emoticon

I do not know if any "official" study has been done on this but in my church we have 3 couples that were victims of such abuse in previous marriage relationships. They bonded as a group and have always been there to provide help and support not only for each other but for others in their social circles. Now it has been 6 years and while a couple have admitted that they felt like falling back into that pattern at times the love and support of the others in the group has given them the strength needed to overcome those urges emoticon

It seems like having such a support group is a real help in stopping this atrocious behavior.

No matter what your specific issue is.....be it abuse, addictions, neglect, upbringing.......anything can be made easier, if you have the support of people who have been there, done that....ya know? It's just nice to be able to talk to someone who knows what you have been through... emoticon

Totally. I think a lot of todays counsellors have been through what 'you' have been through and them people make the best counsellors rather than ones who have just trained and gone 'by the book'
The ones that have actually been through it have more time and understanding. emoticon

Of course, personal experience of something always makes you more empathetic of someone else's suffering unless your psyche has been totally destroyed by the abuse and your ability to empathise along with it, then you are dangerous.
Sometimes people like that will join organisations that help people who are being abused, Ted Bundy is a case in point. He worked on a suicide and abuse hotline alongside Ann Rule who knew him as a friend and who eventually wrote his story.

Has anything been said about the husband being abused?

I know of a couple of situations where this is going on.

Re: Spousal abuse

Spousal abuse means either one. There are women who think it's ok to beat up a man just as there are men who think it is ok to beat up a woman. It works both ways.
And in both ways it is wrong, no one should ever hit another person for whatever reason, either physically or mentally.
