An interesting encounter

I had a lovely experience this afternoon. I came across one of these in my garden. And I have the pictures to prove it was as big as a small mouse, in fact when I first saw it, I thought it was a mouse, then I saw it didn't have a tail and took a closer [sign in to see URL] was as long as my pinkie finger:

]Take a look if you dare.

I think he's gorgeous.

Lucky you. Now please tell me there are bigger spiders than that in Texas. Giv said he was sure that there were because everything is bigger in Texas.

The largest spider in Texas is the ]Texas Tan Tarantula, they say it can grow to be five inches across but the ones I normally see are only about half that size. emoticon

That one yesterday was huge, I thought it was a mouse, until I saw that it didn't have a tail. I wouldn't get any closer.
You will be really proud of me Rick. When my maid wanted to 'hit it' meaning she was ready to kill it, I told her that it was one of God's creatures and she should leave it alone. These rural people have no compunction about killing anything they don't understand and to try to explain to her that they and snakes keep the cane rat population down would be like trying to get her to understand how the internet works. So I don't bother. She goes to church regularly, sings in the choir and reads her Bible, so the idea that God created the spider makes sense to her.
So there you are. As I said you'd be proud that I invoked her religion to save the little thing's life.
