Gun Control
After running into the following I thought "hey, that will make a good topic"
Why Civil Servants should be kept away from Gun Control - genuine statements from public officials.
"Private citizens don't need a gun for self-protection because the police are there to protect them even though the Supreme Court says the police are not responsible for their protection"

Re: Gun Control
If they stopped making guns, a whole lot more people would be out of work.

Re: Gun Control
And there'd be a whole lot more people alive than dead.
I think gun control is vital, and it's just impossible in our country ... sadly.

Re: Gun Control
Like with all political issues, you'll never get consensus on this one. Not as long as people still believe that some lives are more valuable than others and that humans are superior to all other animals.
As long as people feel the need to kill, for whatever reason, there will be weapons to facilitate that need.
There's no point in trying to control the use and ownership of weapons until a whole lot of other issues are resolved.

Re: Gun Control
I'm coming to that conclusion about a lot of things these days, they're all wrapped up in each other, fix the underlying problems and you fix the issue.

Re: Gun Control
At times I find some of the heavy discussion about various subjects a bit tiring and often I'm just not in the mood to get serious and talk about the same old issues over and over again - and then I find I get flippant about them, because it's like going round in circles! And then I get the devil in me and all I want to do is have fun and chat about nothing important for a while ...
I'm like that with TV. I watch mostly in the evenings and then I want to be entertained and have a laugh, not learn about the ancient Egyptians or dinosaurs!
Obviously I do enjoy considered debate back and forth but I have to be in the mood to try and solve the problems of the world - it's just frustrating when my two cents' worth will never make that much of a difference! The powers that be just won't hear what I have to say!!

Re: Gun Control
That's fine Petal just enjoy yourself.
I find that I'm losing my sense of humour a bit, maybe I'm just getting serious in my old age.

Re: Gun Control
Funny I'm just the opposite at the moment - wonder if we still go through "stages" at this time of our lives?
I had so much serious stuff to contend with over the last twenty five years and I made myself old before my time worrying about stuff I had no control over. I'm still trying very hard to be the "new me" you may remember me talking about some weeks ago, and cutting out as much negativity from my life as I possibly can, whenever I can ... not always easy!
