I have no death wish, I've got work to do. But we're all going to die. There seems to be a lot more violence amongst the youth somehow, although I don't like to generalise. Partly I think this could be because some parents will do anything for peace and quiet and kids are spoilt rotten from when they're very small ... the folks don't care where they are or what they do, as long as they're left to do their own thing. Parenting has changed too - these days it's impossible to even chastise your own child without getting into trouble with the law, and imo that's also wrong. It's anarchy by children these days lol! It's true that a lot of stuff was swept under the carpet back then, but it's also true that as kids we had a lot more simple freedom than the kids have today. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Petal Alderin)Wed, 26 Aug 2009 14:41:05 +0000 Re: Today's Problemhttps://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6316,from=rss#post6316https://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6316,from=rss#post6316Because you felt safe, it doesn't necessarily mean that it was safe. Today, predators are exposed in the same way that the 'bad' guys were exposed as you say. Child molesters were there but because everything was hidden in secrecy, either no one spoke about it or they blamed the child for encouraging the predation. Definitely it is the same world, only the ability to do harm is easier because of technology. The 'harmless' old uncle who handed out sweeties, while he put his hands on little nieces butts or tickled little nephews, or the teacher who felt kids up behind the desk were there, children were just too innocent to realise that they were being predated on. Just look at what's come out of the woodwork about Catholic priests' carryings-on. No the world is definitely neither safer, nor more dangerous, it's just that it seems so because we know more.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Morwen Oronor)Wed, 26 Aug 2009 13:04:57 +0000 Re: Today's Problemhttps://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6311,from=rss#post6311https://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6311,from=rss#post6311quote:The world is no more dangerous today than it was when plague was wiping out thousands of people a day or when the Inquisition or Hitler were killing people indiscriminately. Then explain to me why it is that when I was kid, I played outside in our neighborhood from the time I finished my breakfast, (eating lunch at whatever friends house I was at around lunch....most parents watched out for all the kids) and we came in when the sun went down for dinner.....If we got in trouble, the nearest parent chewed our butts or bandaged a knee. Now a days, a child can not play out alone without fear of being nabbed or even killed in a drive-by shooting.... Back in the day's of HITLER...we knew who the "bad" guys were and they were not the school teacher or preacher who lived next door.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Wed, 26 Aug 2009 10:56:15 +0000 Re: Today's Problemhttps://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6301,from=rss#post6301https://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6301,from=rss#post6301Petal, remember that song..Goodbye cruel world, I'm off to join the circus?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Morwen Oronor)Wed, 26 Aug 2009 08:43:26 +0000 Re: Today's Problemhttps://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6297,from=rss#post6297https://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6297,from=rss#post6297So you can't wait to say "goodbye cruel world" Mel?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Petal Alderin)Wed, 26 Aug 2009 07:39:34 +0000 Re: Today's Problemhttps://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6289,from=rss#post6289https://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6289,from=rss#post6289quote:being here is a whole lot better than being dead Not for the Christian. I think humanity has simply lost it's humanity.... I don't think there is any problem in the world today. It's still the great place it always was, being here is a whole lot better than being dead which is the only other option. The world is no more dangerous today than it was when plague was wiping out thousands of people a day or when the Inquisition or Hitler were killing people indiscriminately. There are no problems, merely different ways of looking at life. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Morwen Oronor)Tue, 25 Aug 2009 22:48:29 +0000 Re: Today's Problemhttps://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6278,from=rss#post6278https://btimeandagain.runboard.com/p6278,from=rss#post6278Ah, humanist viewpoint? Is it the lack of self-esteem? Is it our lack of self-control? Or maybe it's our sinful nature? Possibly our self-righteous pride? Our lack of compassion? Or something else? What do you think?   nondisclosed_email@example.com (Order ofMelchizedek)Mon, 24 Aug 2009 14:40:48 +0000
