Question: Order ofMelchizedek and others..HOW DID YOU GET YOUR PROFILE NAME?

How or why did you choose that profile name?
I know that Melchizedek is mentioned in many religions, places and [sign in to see URL] got this from Wikipedia, so I take it with a grain of [sign in to see URL] always the best place for solid info...

quote:

Melchizedek is an enigmatic figure twice mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, also known as the Old Testament. Melchizedek is mentioned as the King of Salem, and priest of God Most High, in the time of the biblical patriarch Abram. He brought out bread and wine, blessed Abram, and received tithes from him, Genesis 14:18-20. Reference is made to him in Psalm 110:4 where the victorious ruler is declared to be "priest forever after the order of Melchizedek."

He is commemorated as one of the Holy Forefathers in the Calendar of Saints of the Armenian Apostolic Church on July 26. He is mentioned in the Roman Canon, the First Eucharistic Prayer of the Roman rite.

quote:

Melchizedek is mentioned twice in the Hebrew bible. The first occurs at Genesis 14:18-20, part of the larger story of Genesis 14:17-24 which tells how Abram returns from defeating king Chedorlaomer and his associates and meets with the king of Sodom, at which point (KJV translation):

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

The second is in Psalm 110:4, celebrating some victory or conquest of an unnamed king of the Davidic dynasty. The king is said to be a "priest forever" and a successor of Melchizedek, and the text is translated (KJV):

The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

quote:

Melchizedek in the Dead Sea Scroll 11Q13

11Q13 (11QMelch) is a fragment (that can be dated end II century or start I century BCE) of a text about Melchizedek found in Cave 11 at Qumran in Israel and which comprises part of the Dead Sea Scrolls. In this eschatological text Melchizedek is seen as a divine being and Hebrew titles as Elohim are applied to him. According to this text Melchizedek will proclaim the "Day of Atonement" and he will atone for the people who are predestined to him. He also will judge the peoples. [1]

quote:

Melchizedek in the Second Book of Enoch

The Second Book of Enoch (also called "Slavonic Enoch") is apparently a Jewish sectarian work of the 1st century CE.[2] The last section of the work, the Exaltation of Melchizedek, tells how Melchizedek was born of a virgin, Sofonim (or Sopanima), the wife of Nir, a brother of Noah. The child came out from his mother after she had died and sat on the bed beside her corpse, already physically developed, clothed, speaking and blessing the Lord, and marked with the badge of priesthood. Forty days later, Melchizedek was taken by the archangel Gabriel (Michael in some manuscripts) to the Garden of Eden and was thus preserved from the Deluge without having to be in Noah's Ark.[3][4]

quote:

Melchizedek in the New Testament
In the New Testament, references to Melchizedek appear only in the Epistle to the Hebrews (end I century CE). Jesus the Christ is there identified as a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek quoting from Ps. 110:4[5], and so Jesus plays the role of High Priest once and for all. Abraham's transfer of goods to Melchizedek is seen to imply that Melchizedek is superior to Abraham, in that Abraham is tithing to him. Thus, Melchizedek's (Jesus') priesthood is superior to the Aaronic priesthood, and the Temple in Jerusalem is now unnecessary.

quote:

The Melchisedechians
Main article: Melchisedechians

There were one or more early Christian heresies associated with the name of Melchizedek, often associated with a denial of the Trinity.

I'm just being nosy... emoticon

Re: Question for you Order ofMelchizedek

Uh oh, I'm being called out!

I had posted this under my name in the introduction thread, and you had even responded shortly after that! I guess you didn't read through all the old posts there.

Anyway, just to make it easy, I'll repost it in this thread:

As a Christian, I looked for a screen name that would reflect that belief, but didn't want anything too common. Melchizedek was a mysterious reference in the OT, and in the NT Jesus is said to be a priest in the order of Melchizedek. However, Melchizedek was taken, so I went with the longer version of Order of Melchizedek.

It seems that Mormons use this name somehow, but I’m not sure of the details. Someone at one of the boards I posted at wondered if I was a Mormon because of this log in name. I am not.

There is a lot of mystery surrounding Melchizedek, but it seems that he was both king and priest, and also a non-Israelite.
The point of all this is that the Levitical priesthood given through Moses was only meant for the Israelites, not all the nations.
Levites did not have the right to become kings, they were priests. Jesus came from the tribe of Judah, whose children have only the right to become kings. Since our Savior received the priesthood in the order of Melchizedek, His children shall receive the right to become both priests and kings (and rule with an iron scepter in the Millenium {Rev 2:26-28, 3:21.}) And as a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek, Jesus can intercede for all nations to bring them to the Lord.

There are also interesting commentaries at the ]Blue Letter Bible

Here are the Scripture references of Melchizedek.

Genesis 14:18
"Then Melchizedek king of Salem (That is, Jerusalem) brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High…"

Psalm 110:4
"The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."

Hebrews 5:6
"And he says in another place, "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." (Psalm 110:4)

Hebrews 5:9-10
"...and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek."

Hebrews 6:20
"…where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."

Hebrews 7:1
"This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him…"

Hebrews 7:10
"…because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor."

Hebrews 7:11
"If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the law was given to the people), why was there still need for another priest to come? One in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?"

Hebrews 7:15
"And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears…"
Hebrews 7:17
"For it is declared: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."

So, there ya go! emoticon

All this other stuff was interesting, I didn't know that Melchizedek was mentioned in the book of Enoch.

I had heard that Catholics use it, and that there was some weird group of heretics that use it (those Melchisedechians), but don't really know much about their beliefs.
My use comes straight outa the Bible!

Ya just never know what to expect when your name's in the subject line! emoticon

I tried to get a thread going on how people came up with their screen names, but it didn't really go anywhere over here.
Ah well, how about your screen name, how'd you come up with that?
Are you royalty? My daughter is convinced that she's a princess, and if we ever find a castle for sale, we better buy it.

Daughters always think they are Princesses! emoticon

And my name most definitely does NOT come from any Royal connections.... emoticon

I started out on the "other host" as [sign in to see URL] to the fact that it was the Legolas Character from Lord of the Rings that got me to wanting to learn how to use a [sign in to see URL], up until 6 years ago, I had never used a computer, matter of fact the last time I had even typed was when I was 16 in my high school typing class (I'm now 51)....and I called myself that, as I found out that the actor who portrayed him in Peter Jackson's movies, was young enough to be my son and I did not realize at that time that the people on the internet might actually be as old as me or older! emoticon
Well the folks I first [sign in to see URL] using OTHF, which I [sign in to see URL] when I opened my first site for my LORD OF THE RINGS [sign in to see URL] started calling me the "DROOL QUEEN" (as is seen under my user name here) thanks to the drool worthy pictures I had (all [sign in to see URL] or nicer), that was shortened to Queeny, but as MODERATOR I needed one a bit different, and so chose [sign in to see URL] boring actually! emoticon

Actually, that's quite interesting.

Anyone else care to share how they came up with their screen names and what the meaning behind it is?

Bummee came from the fact that I am blind in one eye. At first I used Bumeye and due to being off the internet two or three times because of computer crashing beyond reasonable repair I had to make a different choice.

"Bumeye, Bummy, Bummee Bummie" were some that I used. I used Rumplestilskin for a short time.

Bumeye came about because an early schoolmate said one day, "Billy has a BUM EYE!" and it just kind of stuck.
