Re: General McChrystal

It sounds like a good spin off. The bit that is somewhat related is the appearance that the media manipulated the mood of everyone involved and in effect "railroaded" the General in the eyes of the American people.

I never take news reports at face value, nor do I let the media "manipulate my mood". I know they're not always accurate, and are probably out of context most of the time.

That said, anyone who would make belittling comments about the President, no matter who holds that position, shouldn't be serving under that President. If I had been in the military when Bush went into office and I had the right to resign, I would have.

I believe you, I remember you making some comments about the way your former boss did things and after awhile of putting up with it you did "resign." emoticon

Which one? LOL. I was tired of my last one, but I would have stuck around longer if it weren't for the opportunity to go to Europe, I gave him 3 weeks' notice, and left on good terms.

My restaurant jobs, on the other hand, were a different story. There was one where I had put in two weeks' notice and got along with most of the shift managers, but one of them ticked me off so much one week into that, that I walked out before my shift was over. Then there was one where the restaurant manager pushed me so far that I walked out in the middle of my shift without any notice. The corporate bosses (the manager's bosses) were there that day, and I respectfully shook their hands on the way out the door, telling them, "Sorry, but I just can't work for that woman anymore."

When I have a job to do, I bust my butt to go above and beyond. But when I get treated like crap by my bosses, they're taking the risk of having to replace me with someone who won't give half as much effort and/or is too brain-dead to do a decent job if they tried.

Until we hear the words actually spoken by General McChrystal, from General McChrystal, then we can only jump to conclusions....
[sign in to see URL] if the General was right (and he probably was), criticizing your commanding officer publicly won’t fly in the military.
You can question orders and many of our BEST and highest ranking Officers question orders.
None should do so in such a public forum.
(And for those who don't [sign in to see URL] is a retired Master [sign in to see URL])

I agree completely Queeny. The unexpected correction and article re-edit by the NY Times which came after everyone had done just that (ie: jumped to a conclusion) shows how much damage can happen when we do not know the true facts.

The General's requests for troops was put off for almost 6 months, his requests for supplies and equipment needed for the job was delayed by over 3 months. His orders on what the mission was were changed over a dozen times in less than a year.

I would not have been surprised to find he really did say what he was accused of saying but the correction makes it clear that he never said any of it! I am not surprised that he resigned though.

Resigning was the smartest move he could have made.
He was never going to get another "decent" command.
Doesn't matter what or if he said [sign in to see URL] "powers that be" do not want a self-thinking questioning them.

I haven't followed this story very closely, but it sounds like you're right.

Yeah, if he stayed [sign in to see URL] next command would have been some hell hole that no one had ever heard [sign in to see URL], I would suspect that he was strongly urged to resign.
