The 2000 Presidential election springs to mind here, when FOX called Florida for Bush prematurely, and other networks followed their lead. Did they really believe Bush had won Florida, despite the official results not being in yet, or was someone trying to influence the way the public would view a recount?

In 2008 there was voter fraud that was pretty obvious but the Justice department decided not to prosecute since the outcome of the elections was great enough that nothing would have changed.

I think that was a mistake myself, I mean, why have laws with criminal penalties if you are just going to ignore them when it suits your own purposes?
