Fired for legal Pot Smoking!
Wal-Mart worker, fired for legal pot smoking, sues
NEW YORK - Thu Jul 1, 2010 12:39pm EDT - (Reuters) - A Michigan man has sued Wal-Mart Stores Inc for firing him after he tested positive for medical marijuana he was using legally to treat pain from an inoperable brain tumor and sinus cancer.
A Wal-Mart spokesman says this had nothing to do with a doctor's prescribed treatment... I also noticed that Wal-Mart does not make exceptions to what you are smoking as their official position is no smoking by employee's either on or off the job... weirdddd...

That's right, the doctor needs to prescribe it in liquid or pill form... what was he thinking?

Pot pills. There ya go!
It's a stupid rule, and if they're going to have it, they should at least make exceptions. The guy is dying, he's in pain, and the pot was prescribed legally to alleviate that pain. Cut him some slack, already.

Re: Fired for legal Pot Smoking!
The people who work for Wal-Mart smoke in my town. They even have a table set up outside for them to go smoke on their breaks. When I go through the drive through drug thingy the table is right there for me to watch.
That must not be the rule at all Wal-Marts.

Re: Fired for legal Pot Smoking!
Susa,
I think all the Wal-Marts are moving towards the no exceptions, no smoking policy because I see Wal-Marts in some parts of Texas and Oklahoma that used to allow smoking but no longer do. It would be interesting to find out when the corporate policy was put into effect and why some of their stores are pretty much ignoring it.

I searched for the corporate policy change yesterday but couldn't find it.

Re: Fired for legal Pot Smoking!
Wait a second... Wal-Mart doesn't allow their employees to smoke tobacco on their own time, in their own home, either?

Re: Fired for legal Pot Smoking!
That is their "official policy" currently. No smoking anytime or anywhere while employed by them.
