So, uh, hi

Hello everybody.

I figured it's high time to introduce myself somewhere around runboard, and this forum seemed like the one I'd feel most at home at.

So, here goes.

I'm a finnish 26-year old man, and I run the Etelä-Karjalan Miniatyyrikilta ry. forum (roughly translates as Southern-Karelian Miniatures Guild, registered association).

It's basically a very local hobby club for miniature wargaming enthusiasts. Around six years ago a "main" finnish wargaming forum went through a major overhaul, which caused quite a few problems for our club, the main one being that we did not have our own club specific-forum anymore. This lead me to search for a (hopefully) free alternative to run our day to day club business on, since we are a non-profit association and do not have the monetary means to get our own server for a forum. So, i came across runboard and established a forum which was originally meant to be a temporary solution to an immediate problem. Cut to six years later, here we are still, happy and running. Runboard in essence saved our very niche hobby club, and for that I am extremely grateful.

Enough about the forum, probably should tell something about myself while I am at it.

My real name is Kimmo, my surname I won't give simply for the sake of e-security. I've lived my whole life in the town of Imatra, which is an average-sized town for Finland. I've studied IT-support in a vocational school, so I am somewhat fluent in computer emoticon . My hobbies include miniature wargaming, tabletop roleplaying, videogaming and well, gaming in all it's forms. I somewhat blunt in my opinions, even by finnish standards, which has basically made me a lurker around runboard since I did not want to offend anyone. Which is why it took so long for me to even say hello to you all emoticon
I am not particularly religious. I have even resigned from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, which most finnish people are a member of. However, I personally do not have any animosity towards any person of faith simply because they are religious. Figured I should get this one out of the way since it seems quite a few runboarders are religious.

Anyways, glad to be here. And again, a special thanks for everyone on the runboard team for being here when our little hobby club needed a helping hand.

And an apology for any bad english in this post or any posts hereafter, since I am not a native english speaker emoticon

HI AND WELCOME Prof Leadhead! As you can see this board does not get a LOT of action. But I'm very glad to see you stopping in and even happier to hear that once you found Runboard, you decided to stay. I ended up here basically the same way! Amazing how having people at the top who care, can make such a difference in whether one stays or goes.
AGAIN WELCOME! emoticon

Welcome to The Neutral Zone Prof Leadhead emoticon

My apologies for the late welcome but I really do appreciate your being here. I am very deeply religious but I don't hold it out to others like a matador holds out his cape to a bull. emoticon

This is a place where anyone who really wants to chat can do so without hiding their feelings behind self edited "gotta be nice" posts. I think you will like it here. emoticon

Re:

Just to be clear, I myself prefer civil discussions, I just mean that if you slip up and say something you later read and go "oh crud, I shouldn't have said that" or "jeez I could have said that better" you don't have to worry about being bashed on the head. The goal is online friendship that can handle a foo pah or two without sending all the good things of the previous posts off the cliff of hate, animosity, and/or distrust...

It isn't always easy or even possible to achieve the goal but I think it is a worthy goal to strife for... That is why you really have to work at it to get banned from this board. We give users more chances than any other board on the net hands down.
