Re: Dangerous Christianity?
No offense taken Mo, I respect your right to disbelieve as well though I'll make light of it at times as you did here. I also look for the funny side of things in life

Re: Dangerous Christianity?
You know when you looks disappear and your body starts falling apart, if you don't laugh about it, you'll cry and crying only makes your eyes smart.

Re: Dangerous Christianity?
I can see we have a communication problem here: I laugh because I if I didn't I'd cry and crying makes your eyes sting/red/streaky.
American-speaking people say smart when they mean clever and English-speaking people say smart when they mean dapper/well-turned out/insolent/sting.
Lost in translation???

Re: Dangerous Christianity?
I understood you Mo, sometimes I will look for ways to see things different than what is intended on purpose though because I can find some really funny things that way

Re: Dangerous Christianity?
I know that - I just find the funny way we misunderstand Americans, or vice versa and yet we speak the same language, like when you say 'vest' you mean a 'waist-coat', When we say 'vest' we mean an undershirt.
When you say 'dumb' you mean stupid, to us 'dumb' means unable to speak.
I understand American because I watch a lot of American television. But a lot of people, and especially in SA, who don't would never get it.

Re: Dangerous Christianity?
Of course I knew what you meant Mo, was just being in mad mood yet again!
Vocab and spelling are both quite different in many ways, as are various expressions.
Americans say "I didn't do nothing" which to us means that they have most definitely done something! The double negative cancels out there and becomes a positive. We would say "I didn't do anything" or "I did nothing".
A faucet to us is a tap, a trunk is a boot, a hood is a bonnet, a sidewalk is a pavement, and there are lots of others as well. Also we spell colour and Americans spell color without the u - we have aluminium and the US has aluminum. It's fun!
We spent ages once in New York going from hardware store to hardware store and everywhere we could think of, looking for a torch. No can do - eventually after about an hour it clicked and we then asked for a flashlight - found one right away!!

Re: Dangerous Christianity?
My favorite American expression is "I could care less". Really and you don't care? Or do you care? Huh????
