I can't see why there should be any other way than to take what people say seriously.
Surely if you don't say you are joking, you intend whatever you spend time researching and writing as something you'd want the rest of the group to understand as being a serious comment.

Exactly. It gets pretty tiresome spending all that time, doing all that research and trying several different ways to explain the results, only to have it dismissed by someone who prefers to remain ignorant on the matter.

Exactly so, The answers or question or even responses can be short and look like it was just "off the top of my/your head" but nothing is more annoying than spending hours doing the research and working at getting a post as close to right as possible just to get a flippant answer like "so?"
I love the research but a response like that can try even the "patience of Job."

I also suppose it helps if people are really interested in reading what you write. Sometimes you write something and no one responds so it's a wasted effort. Of course there are subjects that people simply don't want to talk about in case their faith is shaken like origin myths and other religions.
