Life after People
Here's the link to the TV series
We're about to get this program on our version of History Channel, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Considering that every species has evolved to where we are today, and that most earlier evolutions have eventually died out, it figures that eventually, humans will go the same way, and probably faster than would've happened if we hadn't make such a huge attempt to destroy the planet.
I wonder if, after our species has died out, would there be a possibility that another type of human may evolve?

Re: Life after People
Anything bad enough to wipe out mankind would propably destroy also all apes and monkeys, plus most of large land mammals, so it would be a big step backwards. What ever takes out us will be 6th mass extinction.
Unless it's a devastating climate change (which however would be likely thing to happen), marine life might have better chances.
My bet on next intelligent species are dolphin, shark and octopus.
It's kind of strange that it took this long for us to evolve. Co-operation and social interaction are very useful abilities to a species and those require some level of intelligence. Not to mention using tools, but that only comes after relatively high intelligence.

Re: Life after People
I don't know Kaunisto, I know some very stupid humans who know how to use tools!!
I don't think it will be climate change. I think we're on the edge of it already in places like North africa where people are dying like flies because of starvation.
I'll tell you what the theory is when I see the show.

Very good Queenie, and very true too.
We're not the zenith of creation, not in my opinion anyway. I think the earth's life could only be extended if humans disappeared.

Re: Life after People
Humans are certainly destroying the earth as we knew and know it ... and rapidly. Sounds like an interesting series Mo - will have to watch that one!
