Re: Melchizedek

I thought I'd already posted this over here, but I guess not.
So, here it is - all about my screen name and how I came up with it.

As a Christian, I looked for a screen name that would reflect that belief, but didn't want anything too common. Melchizedek was a mysterious reference in the OT, and in the NT Jesus is said to be a priest in the order of Melchizedek. However, Melchizedek was taken, so I went with the longer version of Order of Melchizedek.

It seems that Mormons use this name somehow, but I’m not sure of the details. Someone at one of the boards I posted at wondered if I was a Mormon because of this log in name. I am not.

There is a lot of mystery surrounding Melchizedek, but it seems that he was both king and priest, and also a non-Israelite.
The point of all this is that the Levitical priesthood given through Moses was only meant for the Israelites, not all the nations.
Levites did not have the right to become kings, they were priests. Jesus came from the tribe of Judah, whose children have only the right to become kings. Since our Savior received the priesthood in the order of Melchizedek, His children shall receive the right to become both priests and kings (and rule with an iron scepter in the Millenium {Rev 2:26-28, 3:21.}) And as a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek, Jesus can intercede for all nations to bring them to the Lord.

There are also interesting commentaries at the Blue Letter Bible

Here are the Scripture references of Melchizedek.

Genesis 14:18
"Then Melchizedek king of Salem (That is, Jerusalem) brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High…"

Psalm 110:4
"The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."

Hebrews 5:6
"And he says in another place, "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." (Psalm 110:4)

Hebrews 5:9-10
"...and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek."

Hebrews 6:20
"…where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."

Hebrews 7:1
"This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him…"

Hebrews 7:10
"…because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor."

Hebrews 7:11
"If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the law was given to the people), why was there still need for another priest to come? One in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?"

Hebrews 7:15
"And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears…"
Hebrews 7:17
"For it is declared: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."

So, there you have it. emoticon

I found this quote from an unknown author that sums up my preaching over here.

"To silence a preacher from preaching judgment is like being awoken from sleep by a fire alarm, but instead of escaping, silencing the alarm, and going back to sleep."
-Unknown

Please don't just go back to sleep! emoticon
